Walking the Camino — The Outer Journey and the Journey Within.
For most people, walking for hours on end through sun and rain might sound exhausting. For Arlene Laskey, it’s where she rediscovers her peace. A nurse, wife, mother, and grandmother, Arlene found herself craving something beyond her busy, responsibility-filled days—something that would reconnect her with silence, with nature, and with herself.

That calling led her to the Camino de Santiago, the ancient pilgrimage route across Spain known as The Way of St. James. What began as a physical challenge soon unfolded into a journey of renewal and revelation.
“Walking the Camino is good for my soul,” Arlene says. “It’s a gift to myself—time to walk in nature, through the history and culture of Spain, and reconnect with who I am. Out there, I remember that I’m strong, resilient, and capable of anything I set my mind to.”
The Call of the Camino
Arlene’s first pilgrimage began with a spark—a casual conversation with a friend at a backyard barbecue. That seed grew into a calling she couldn’t ignore. Before long, she and her daughter Rachel were boarding a plane to France to begin an 800-kilometre trek across northern Spain.
The days were simple yet profound: walk, eat, sleep, repeat. Along the way, they met fellow pilgrims from all over the world—families, solo adventurers, seekers—each carrying their own reasons for walking. Some days were filled with conversation; others offered only the rhythm of footsteps and the whisper of wind through vineyards and eucalyptus forests.
Arlene learned that the Camino is more than a trail; it’s a teacher. It demands surrender—to weather, fatigue, and the unknown—and in return, it offers clarity, strength, and a deep sense of connection.
The Inner Path
When Arlene returned home, the lessons of the Camino lingered. She enrolled in the Master Key Experience, a six-month study in self-discovery based on The Master Key System by Charles Haanel. Through silence, focus, and reflection, she realized that the pilgrimage and the inner journey were mirrors of one another—both requiring faith, courage, and the willingness to walk forward even when the path isn’t clear.
That insight inspired her to write her debut novel, Quest for the Enlightened Pilgrim, weaving together the wisdom of the Master Key teachings with the spiritual rhythm of the Camino. She later created a Camino Trip Journal to help other pilgrims reflect on their own journeys—both the outer walk and the inner transformation.
The Journey Continues
Today, Arlene continues to inspire others to find their own way—whether through travel, writing, or daily acts of mindfulness. Her story reminds us that the path to discovery isn’t always about distance, but about depth.
“I can follow the signs with faith and gratitude. I can live in the present. I can find the magic and enjoy the journey.”
For Arlene Laskey, life itself has become the Camino—a continuous unfolding of lessons, gratitude, and grace.
