As part of the Wanderlust Retreat 2026, writers, readers, and creatives are invited to join us for a series of workshops and experiences designed to inspire creativity, develop your writing, explore Puerto Vallarta, and connect with a community of storytellers.

✍️ Writers Workshop: Show, Don’t Tell & Self-Publishing

Bring your writing to life by engaging the five senses!
This interactive workshop will explore the art of “show, don’t tell” through descriptive language, detailed imagery, and vivid scenes incorporating sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.
Examples will be provided, followed by a travel- or Day of the Dead-inspired writing prompt designed to get your creativity flowing. There will also be an opportunity to share your writing with the group.
📚 Thinking About Self-Publishing?
Learn the basics of self-publishing with publishing expert Teena Clipston, Publisher and Creative Director of Clipston Publishing.
Teena works with authors through the writing, editing, design, publishing, distribution, and marketing process, helping writers understand both the creative and practical sides of bringing a book to market.
This session will give you a foundation in self-publishing before your book is finished, so you can make informed decisions as you write and prepare for publication.
We’ll explore the publishing process, editing and book preparation, ISBNs, formatting and design, distribution platforms, timelines, costs, and the steps you can take now to make publishing your finished book easier.
Come with questions and leave with a clearer understanding of what it takes to move from manuscript to published author. 📖

Spend the afternoon and evening experiencing Puerto Vallarta through a writer’s eyes!
We’ll begin with our Writers Walkabout from 5:00–7:00 PM, a combination of walking tour, writing experience, and cultural exploration designed to slow us down, awaken the senses, and find inspiration in the city around us.
We’ll explore the Malecón and surrounding historic district, including ChocoMuseo, Huichol art, the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the Cultural Center.

🌺 Notice the textures of tropical flowers, trees, and stone.
🌮 Taste local fare.
🌊 Listen to the sounds of the city and the sea.
✍️ Stop, breathe, observe, and write.
Along the way, we’ll pause for moments of stream-of-consciousness writing inspired by the people, places, culture, sights, sounds, scents, tastes, and textures surrounding us.
This unique interactive experience is guided by the founder of Plumas Azules Writers Group of Puerto Vallarta, together with a renowned local chef.
🎤 Then We’re Heading to Open Mic Night!
7:00–9:00 PM. When the Walkabout ends, the evening doesn’t! We’ll head together to our Open Mic Night for food, drinks, conversation, and an evening of creativity with the Wanderlust literary community.
Calling all poets, authors, writers, musicians, comedians, storytellers, and spoken-word performers—from seasoned performers to first-timers.

🎙️ Share a poem or spoken-word piece.
Each participant will have up to six minutes to take the stage and share.
A microphone and speakers will be provided, and musicians should bring their own instruments. Guests purchase their own food and beverages from the venue.
You can join us for the Walkabout, meet us for Open Mic Night, or make an afternoon and evening of it and experience both.

Bring a favorite book, the book you are currently reading, or one you have been meaning to finish, along with your towel and hat, and spend an afternoon reading by the water with fellow book lovers.
We’ll make time to talk about what we’re reading. Introduce your book, tell us why you chose it, share a favorite character, quote, or short passage, and tell the group why you would—or wouldn’t—recommend it.
